Medical Research in Terms of Data Protection Law
Medical research is done on the material or data derived from human beings. The sensitive nature of data relating to health and involvement of human subjects into research raises a number of legal and ethical issues: What are the legal requirements for the use of patients' data for research? What measures should be taken to protect privacy of research participants? What are the safeguards that research will be done in an ethical way? How to deal with incidental findings, if such findings are of potential health or reproductive significance for the patient? The lecture will give an insight how these issues are handled in medical research on an example of the research project HarmonicSS (http://harmonicss.eu/).
